A site for all flavors

Article Abstract:

It is relatively easy to develop simple Web sites, but adding sophisticated multimedia technologies can be difficult. The key to developing an effective Web site is to identify the target audience and the operating systems, monitor sizes, connection speeds and browsers they are likely to use. Server log files can identify the number of page hits as well as the browsers and operating systems used to access the site. The site developer should initially focus on navigation and categorization design for the long term. The site should offer a compelling experience that meets the users' needs and capabilities. JavaScript is highly recommended for enhancing the users' experience. The site should be tested on a variety of systems, various sizes of monitors and different operating systems.

Facts are in the mail

Article Abstract:

When starting an e-mail newsletter, it is important to first define its mission. Wired News, for example, says that the main goal of its online newsletter is to boost traffic for its Web site. Personalizing an e-mail is a key appeal point, ensuring that the information sent to a particular user will be valuable. The crucial elements in a successful e-mail newsletter are lively content, brevity, and timely and original information. Publishers who charge for subscriptions to their publications are obliged to offer timely reporting in their online newsletters. Plain old text is the most popular e-mail format although some are using HTML's graphics capabilities. It is also important to stick to a regular publishing schedule and to keep the mailing list updated.
