3.5-inch magnetic disc drive spins at 12,030rpm

Hitachi Ltd. presents the DK3E1T-91 series of 3.5-inch magnetic disc drive that spins at 12,030rpm, one of the fastest rotation speeds to date. The product will be sold on an OEM basis as deluxe disc drive systems for UNIX and personal computer servers and disc array equipment. With a mean seek time of 5ms., the DK3E1T-91 features a transmission speed 1.5 times faster than conventional models of the same kind. The DK3E1T-91, which consumes power at the conventional level of 11.8W, is available for 240,000 yen ($1,791).

Panasonic slims down CD-R/CD-RW drive, hastens data transfer

Panasonic Document Imaging Co's Computer Peripheral Division introduced its first portable KXL-RW10A recordable and rewritable CD-R/CD-RW drive at the Fall Comdex '99 show in Las Vegas, NV. The product features 4X write and 4X rewrite read times and 2MB buffer. It runs with Windows 95 or 98 and Windows NT 4.0. The drive measures 6.41 x 5.12 x 0.96 and weighs 12.07 oz. The KXL-RW10A can also provide enhanced productivity and computing flexibility when upgraded to Panasonic's new portable CD-R and CD-RW drive.

M-Smart Mercury, M-Smart Venus and M-Smart Jupiter are compatible with Motorola's other systems, integration and software products for the development of desired turnkey systems.
