2-D animation's not just for Mickey Mouse

Article Abstract:

Two-dimensional animation is still popular, and 2-D animation tools are getting faster and easier to use. 2-D animation is made up of multiple frames sequenced together, and displayed in quick succession. Animation software must be able to handle file management well, since a one-hour animated presentation at 30 images per second comprises 108,000 images. It also must accommodate layering, painting and positioning. Before buying a system, a user should define the type of animation that is desired. Character animation has different requirements than graphic animation, and there are packages that are specifically oriented towards each type. Professional cartoonists still create artwork on paper, and scan it into the computer, where it is colorized, masked, and set into motion. The computer is well-suited for painting individual cels, and it is important to paint with anti-aliased lines and edges to avoid artifacts.

Shoot for the Web; making a video production a Web production

Article Abstract:

Video footage needs to be prepared with Web delivery in mind, if it is to appear well online. The most important tip offered is to keep the amount of camera movement in a video down to a minimum. Also, shutter speed should be kept at the highest speed possible, while keeping in mind potential lighting difficulties. RealNetwork's RealEncoder is an excellent tool for beginners to learn video encoding, and it can be downloaded for free. Another solution is Microsoft's NetShow ASF, which requires a plug-in and when used with several third-party programs, allows users to turn their ASF file into interactive theater. QuickTime's Fast-Start mode, while not true streaming, allows users to begin playing clips while they are being downloaded.
