Electrochemical promotion by sodium of the rhodium-catalyzed NO + CO reaction

Article Abstract:

XPS shows that the electropumping of Na to a metallic Rh film contacted with a solid electrolyte (Na beta alumina) under potentiostatic conditions results in reversible spillover of the alkali from the electrolyte to the catalytically active surface. The NO + CO reaction exhibits strong, reversible electrochemical promotion under Na pumping to the rhodium catalyst.

Electrochemical promotion of rhodium-catalyzed NO reduction by CO and by propene in the presence of oxygen

Article Abstract:

The effects of alkali-metal modifiers on the catalytic performance of platinum (Pt), copper (Cu) and rhodium (Rh) metal film catalysts and the effects of added oxygen on alkali-metal promotion of NO reduction are studied using electrochemical promotion (EP). Results indicate that the poisoning may be caused due to the alkali-metal inhibition of propene adsorption, excessive formation of Na2O and oxidation of Rh to Rh2O3.
