SWITZERLAND/FRANCE: MADER, SOFICOR JOIN FORCES

Article Abstract:

Two producers of industrial coatings, Walter Mader AG of Killwangen, Switzerland, and Soficor of France have agreed upon a close cooperation from 1 October 2000. Between them the two are likely to generate a turnover of SFr 140mn in year 2001. The Soficor group has five production plants. The Mader group consists of the Swiss companies Mader Lacke AG and Mader Kunstharze (unsaturated polyester resins) of Killwangen, Adisa AG of Urdorf and the 50% subsidiary Metal Paint AG in Menziken and of Mader Aqualack GmbH of Hamm and Mader Austria GmbH of Traiskirchen.

EUROPE: GROWING DEMAND FOR POLYURETHANE COATINGS

Article Abstract:

A study by the market research institute Frost & Sullivan predicts the consumption of polyurethane coatings in Europe to grow from US$ 3.46bn in 1999 to US$ 3.85bn in 2006. The growth of demand will be driven mainly by the automotive industry but also aviation, construction, furniture and domestic appliance industries. Despite concentration among suppliers on the European market, tightening competition from Asian producers will keep prices under pressure.

JAPAN/CHINA: NIPPON PAINT EXPANDING

Article Abstract:

Japan's leading coatings producer Nippon Paint has announced that in future it will carry out investments mainly in China, where it sees great market potential. By early 2001, however, Nippon Paint is to start up two factories for the production of resins and electro-dipcoats.
