Photochemistry of ruthenium trisbipyridine functionalized on gold nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

Design of nanohybrid systems possessing several ruthenium trisbipyridine ([Ru(bpy)3.sup.2+]) chromosphores on the surface of gold nanoparticles are reported by adopting a place exchange reaction and their photophysical properties are tuned by varying the density of chromophores. Results reveal that electron-transfer products are not observed on decreasing the concentration of [Ru(bpy)3.sup.2+] functionalized on Au nanoparticles or in a saturated solution of unbound chromophores.

Long-Lived Photoinduced Charge Separation in Ru(Bpy)(sub 3)(super 2+)/Viologen System at Nafion Membrane -Solution Interface

Article Abstract:

The photoinduced electron transfer from the excited state of tris (2,2'-bipyridine) ruthenium (II)(Ru (bpy)(sub 3)(super 2+) incorporated into Nafion membranes to propylviologen sulfonate (PVS) in the surrounding solution is examined by both photochemical and photoelectrochemical measurements. An extremely long lifetime of photoinduced charge-separated pair, albeit in low yield at present, is observed.

Ab initio based calculations of electron-transfer rates in metalloproteins

Article Abstract:

A study describes an ab initio Hartree-Fock approach to compute electronic-coupling interactions and electron-transfer rates in proteins. The approach is tested on six ruthenium-modified azurin derivatives using the high temperature nonadiabatic rate expression and compared with simpler pathways, average barrier, and semiempirical INDO models.
