In situ studies of phase transitions in thin discotic films

Article Abstract:

A study on the crystalline to liquid crystalline phase transition in thin films of zone-cast hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene six fold substituted with dodecyl side chains (HBC-C12H25) was conducted. It is revealed that a large increase in optical anisotropy is compatible with the X-ray data showing a transition from the as-cast herringbone-like crystalline state to a highly ordered discotic hexagonal columnar LC phase.

Interfacial study of cubic boron nitride films deposited on diamond

Article Abstract:

The distinctive features of cubic boron nitride (cBN) films grown on diamond are highlighted in contrast to those characteristics to cBN films prepared on silicon substrates is presented. Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE CVD) assisted with fluorine chemistry enables growing cBN directly on diamond using a single presetting the deposition conditions at a bias of -10 V.

Characterization of diffusion-controlled mass transport through nanoporous and nanothin films plasma polymerized on a sputtered platinum electrode

Article Abstract:

The diffusion mode of various redox chemical species is demonstrated through a plasma-polymerized nanothin coating with nanometer-sized pores in a sputtered platinum electrode. Hexamethyldisiloxane plasma-polymerized films are added onto the sputtered platinum film, both of which are sequentially deposited in the same vacuum chamber.
