Hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO microspheres and hexagonal microrods with sheetlike and platelike nanostructures

Article Abstract:

Unusual ZnO micropheres constructed of interconnected sheetlike nanostructures were prepared by the hydrothermal synthesis approach. These microsphere possess high surface areas but are amorphous, by increasing the reaction time, the microspheres gradually dissolved to form short hexagonal microrods with platelike nanostructures stacked together and adsorption of metal nanoparticles onto the surfaces of these microstructures may yield enhanced catalytic of the catalyst nanoparticles.

General solution route for nanoplates of hexagonal oxide or hydroxide

Article Abstract:

The Fe2O3, Co(OH)2, MnCO3, and Ni(OH)2 hexagonal nanoplates were prepared by a citric acid (CA) assisted hydrothermal process. The capping molecule of CA, which inhibits crystal growth along the (001) direction due to its chelating effect, plays a critical role in the hydrothermal formation of the nanoplates.

Bio-friendly synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles in aqueous solution at near-neutral pH and low temperature

Article Abstract:

ZnO nanoparticles are synthesized in aqueous solution at near-neutral pH and 37 degree C by using a new bio-friendly method. The crystallization method is used to create new hybrids of ZnO by introducing biomolecules during the crystallization.
