Facile syntheses of monodisperse ultrasmall Au clusters

Article Abstract:

A report that monodisperse [Au.sub.11] clusters and bimodal distributions of [Au.sub.8] and [Au.sub.10] could be produced by reducing a Au(I) precursor in the presence of bidentate phosphine ligands is presented. Results reveal that the cluster size could be varied by simply varying the length of the spacer separating the P atoms in the ligand and that certain diphosphine ligands could be extremely size-selective.

Analyzing the structure of CoFe-Fe(sub 3)O(sub 4)-shell nanoparticles by electron imaging

Article Abstract:

The step-by-step techniques used for identifying the structure of the CoFe-Fe(sub 3)O(sub 4) nanoparticles, which are composed of ~4-nm CoFe cores and covered with ~3-nm Fe(sub 3)O(sub 4) polynanocrystallites are demonstrated. The techniques demonstrated are general and can be adopted for analysis of any nanoparticles of interest in physical chemistry.

Bio-functionalization of monodisperse magnetic nanoparticles and their use as biomolecular labels in a magnetic tunnel junction based sensor

Article Abstract:

The bio-functionalization and detection of 12-nm manganese ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) is reported. A novel method of detecting either protein binding or DNA hybridization at room temperature using the NPs and magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) biosensor situated in orthogonal magnetic fields is demonstrated.
