Excited state proton transfer as a probe for polymer-surfactant interaction

Article Abstract:

Interaction between the polymer, poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and an anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) is studied using excited-state proton transfer (ESPT) of 1-naphthol as a probe. The study indicates that 1-naphthol readily binds to the PVP-SDS aggregates, and the ESPT process of 1-naphthol is a sensitive indicator of the interaction of the polymer, PVP, and the surfactant SDS.

Solvation Dynamics of DCM in Human Serum Albumin

Article Abstract:

Solvation dynamics of DCM molecules, which occurs in subpicosecond time scale in polar solvents such as menthol, is slowed down significantly when DCM is transferred to the hydrophobic interior of a protein, HSA. The study demonstrates that the biological water molecules present in the immediate vicinity of a protein are substantially slower than ordinary water molecules.
