Effect of water on the low temperature conductivity of polymer electrolytes

Article Abstract:

The proton conductivity of radiation-grafted ethylenetetrafluoroethylene-grafted-poly(styrene sulfonic) acid (ETFE-g-PSSA) and Nafion 117 membranes between 25 and -37 degree Celsius is reported. Differential scanning calorimetry data show that up to 14 H(sub 2)O molecules per H(super +)/SO3(super -) group remain unfrozen at subzero temperatures and are responsible for the low temperature conductivity that is observed.

Disorder in binary polymer systems near their critical region studied by low-frequency Raman spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A blend of polystyrene and polybutadiene with low-frequency Raman spectra of the block copolymer of polystyrene and polyisoprene is investigated. It is seen that in the diblock, the Boson peaks manifest themselves at frequencies characteristics of pure polymers, so that large regions formed by pure components exist in the diblock.

Surface plasmon-quantum dot coupling from arrays of nanoholes

Article Abstract:

The coupling of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) to the surface plasmon (SP) modes of nanohole arrays in a metal film is described. The maximum enhancement occurred when the resonance from the nanohole array matched the QD photoluminescence spectrum.
