Dynamic behavior of water within a polymer electrolyte fuel cell membrance at low hydration levels

Article Abstract:

Quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) is used to investigate the picosecond dynamic behavior of water within a perfluorosulfonated isnomer (PFSI) membrane under increasing hydration levels from dry to satruation. The results of study expanded current understanding of the interplay between physical and chemical properties of PFSI membranes and the dynamic behavior of water molecules when the PEM is hydrated.

Propane fuel cells using phosphoric-acid-doped polybenzimidazole membranes

Article Abstract:

Propane fuel cells, using H3PO4-doped polybenzimidazole polymer membranes, produced low and unsustainable current densities at temperatures up to 250 degree Celsius, under anhydrous conditions. Stable intermediate species blocked the surfaces of the noble metal catalysts, and the intermediate species could not react further into deabsorbable final products.

Mechanistic analysis of the oxygen reduction reaction at (La,Sr)MnO3 cathodes in solid oxide fuel cells

Article Abstract:

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics was investigated at a dense La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSM) cathode layer. The rate of ORR at dense LSM was found to be limited by the dissociation of [O.sub.2ads.sup.-] at low currents and by the first electron-transfer step, reducing [O.sub.2ads] to [O.sub.2ads.sup.-] at high currents.
