Click chemistry on surfaces: 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions of azide-terminated monolayers on silica

Article Abstract:

The preparation of monolayers of 11-azido-undecylisiloxane on powdered silica and on silicon wafers by the substitution of 11-bromo-undecylisiloxane and were subsequently coupled with three substituted acetylenes to yield 1,2,3 triazoles via the Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction is shown. A test was also conducted to examine the reactions for their suitability to modify and functionalize solid-state surfaces.

Dissolution kinetics of synthetic amorphous silica in biological-like media and its theoretical description

Article Abstract:

Dissolution behaviour and kinetics of different types of synthetic amorphous silica are studied with high specific surface areas in the system with biological-like conditions in TRIS buffer and the phospholipid L-alpha-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC). The dissolution of nondisperse silica represents a strong size effect that leads to a significant higher silica concentration when compared with the bulk phase.

Mechanism of the optical response of mesoporous silica impregnated with Reichardt's dye to NH3 and other gases

Article Abstract:

Reichardt's dye (RD) on a highly hydrated HMS surface strips a proton from a SiOH in a patch of silanols, in the presence of polar molecules acting as solvents, so becoming colorless. A base stronger than RD captures the proton, giving rise to the appearance of color.
