Carotene as a molecular wire: conducting atomic force microscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the development of molecular wires using a variety of proposed materials including the use of organic molecules with large de-localized pi electron systems such as carotenoid polyene. The experiment used conducting atomic force microscopy to contact individual carotenoids embedded in an insulating alkanethiol monolayer on a gold surface with a controlled force to measure the resistance of the molecule. Results are discussed.

Photoelectrochemistry of a pigment used in artificial photosynthesis: an anilinocarotenoid

Article Abstract:

The experiment was conducted on the photochemistry of a pigment used in artificial photosynthesis revealed that the synthetic carotenoid H2APC is able to form stable monolayers at an air-water interface at pH~5. The result shows that the absorption of light by the carotenoid pigment is responsible for the photocurrent effects and the photoresponse increases linearly with the number of LB layers.

Reply to the comment on 'electron source in photoinduced hydrogen production on Pt-Supported TiO(sub 2) particles'

Article Abstract:

The structural change of TiO2 as one of the possibilities in oxidation Ti(super 4+) to Ti(super 5+) as most probable mechanisms are discussed. Different views on the real photochemical reaction process on TiO2 are invited.
