Binding mechanism of sucrose to dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine Langmuir films by Fourier transform infrared reflection - absorption spectroscopy and quartz-crystal microbalance technique

Article Abstract:

The incorporation of sucrose to dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) thin films has been investigated using a combination of quartz-crystal microbalance and Fourier transform infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopies. The former is a powerful method in measuring the mass of thin films on a nanogram scale. Results indicate that sucrose molecules are strongly incorporated in fully hydrated DPPC thin films but weakly in partially hydrated films. The sucrose molecules can be squeezed out easily by lateral pressure in partially hydrated films.

Study of molecular aggregation of artificial amyloid in a Langmuir monolayer by infrared spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The characterization of newly synthesized peptidolipid ([C.sub.18]IIGLM-N[H.sub.2]) which formed a stable Langmuir monolayer is reported. The stiffness and larger limiting molecular area of the [C.sub.18]IIGLM-N[H.sub.2] Langmuir monolayer is influenced by the antiparallel [beta]-sheet structure formed at an early stage of monolayer preparation.

Fibril-like aggregate formation of peptide carboxylate Langmuir films analyzed by surface pressure, surface dipole moment, and infrared spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The fibril formation process of a synthetic peptidolipid compound in a Langmuir monolayer at the air-water interface is analyzed. The results indicate that the fibril-like aggregation formation process, during the monolayer compression, is found to be due to the stiff domain formation in the Langmuir films.
