A C60-embedded artificial bilayer membrane film electrode device: phase-transition-dependent electrochemistry

Article Abstract:

Lipid bilayer membranes are significant in the functionalization of fullerenes. Efforts have been made toward the development of molecular electrode devices which use tunable fullerene materials. Phase-transition-dependent electrochemical analyses were performed on a C60/artificial lipid bilayer film electrode device. The artificial lipid dihexadecyldimethyammonium poly(styrene sulfonate) was used as the electrode modifier. The data suggest that C60 embedded in artificial lipid film is tunable and can be used as material for fullerene/lipid electrical devices.

Thermodynamic study of ion-pairing effects between reduced double-decker lutetium(III) phthalocyanines and a cationic matrix

Article Abstract:

Studies done on the thermodynamics of ion paring between electrochemically reduced [(C6H13S)8Pc]2Lu or [(C12H25S)4Pc]2 Lu and a cationic tetra-n-octylphosphonium bromide (4C8P+Br-) matrix is reported. Findings reveal that the thermodynamic treatment is applicable not only to reduced double-decker lutetium(III) phthalocyanines but also to other highly reduced compounds such as porphyrins and fullerenes.

Electromechanical and chemical reduction of fullerenes C60 and C70 embedded in cast films of artificial lipids in aqueous media

Article Abstract:

The electrochemical behavior of C60 and of C70 embedded in films of lipids and cationic amphiphiles on basal-plane pyrolytic graphite (BPG) electrodes in aqueous media is described. The results indicate that the charge of the lipid matrix and the hydrophobic microenvironments in the lipid films play an important role in the generation of anions of C60 and C70 in these film states in aqueous media.
