Article Abstract:
Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESIMS) was used to investigate the binding of 1-anilino-8-napthalene-sulfonic acid to globular proteins at acidic pH. Maximal ANS binding was observed at pH 4.0 as recorded in the pH range 2-7 as established by mass spectra of apomyoglobin. In the gas phase, as many as seven distinct species may be observed which correspond to protein molecules containing one to six molecules of bound ANS. The results showed that a convenient method of probing the stoichiometry and distribution of dye complexes is provided by ESIMS.

Article Abstract:
The physical properties of a class of quarternary ammonium salts based on the bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)-imide and triflate anions have been studied. Binary phase diagrams and electrochemical windows of stability have been derived for some of the mixtures. Results show that molten salts in the quaternary ammonium family can be prepared with the total number of carbons in the cation less than 20. These salts have a low symmetry ammonium cation, a longer chain of carbon provides the asymmetry and have alkyl chains that are identical.

Article Abstract:
The nonhydrothermal synthesis of SnO2 nanorods at moderate temperatures (320 or 700 degree Celsius), and the application of these nanorods as a Li storage compound for Li-ion batteries are reported. Some possible reasons for the high capacity are suggested, based on the observation of morphology changes in the nanorods during cycling.
