Venturing into the equity gap

Article Abstract:

Many start-up firms have problems securing equity financing because their capital needs are too small to interest banks, insurance companies, pension funds or even venture capital companies. In such a situation, small firms have no choice but to finance their expansion any which way then can. This requires a fair degree of creativity on the part of the start-up, the perseverance to find a suitable backer, and the ability to form a persuasive yet realistic proposal for providing a reasonable return for interested investors. One possible source of funding are the so-called 'business angels,' who are usually successful entrepreneurs looking for interesting investment opportunities. Other potential sources of funding are established firms working within the same industry as the start-up and the few venture capital companies that are willing to carry start-up risks.
