Treasuring the Institute

Article Abstract:

James Forbes, treasurer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales in an interview with Accountancy magazine, gives his views on the Institute, its history and its future. His business background is in commerce, and he has worked with Peat Marwick Mitchell, Cadbury Schweppes and Tate and Lyle. He is only the second treasurer the Institute has ever had.

In response to the 'Change for change's sake' article by Don Heady, in which Heady criticises the ICAEW's document 'Getting Close to Members', it is argued that once a decision has been made by a society, members should be supportive.

The importance of recognising regional differences in England and Wales is discussed, with reference to the need for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to have co-ordination between local groups.
