Advances in technology has reduced the amount of paperwork for accountants and left them with more time to meet the needs of customers. Today, accountants provide their clients more than information, but also techniques on how information can be used to improve business. To add value to their service, accountants should stay in touch with their clients by visiting their offices or sending newsletters. They should also emphasize on the importance of a high-quality workforce to their employees, encourage them to strive for constant improvement and instill in them the value of good client relations.

In an interview conducted with several accounting firms in Guelph, Ontario, it was inferred that all the firms are dwelling on the same focus and mandate. Results of the interview showed that the firms are targeting the same clients and are not significantly involving themselves in profitable niches. These accounting firms also faces the difficulty of delivering quality services due to their lack of time and focus.
