Cross-sectional analysis of BMI and some lifestyle variables in Flemish vegetarians compared with non-vegetarians

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on vegetarians to report BMI, smoking and drinking habits, engagement in physical activity, medication use and subjective health perception in a vegetarian population as compared with a reference Belgian population. The lower BMI values in the vegetarian population studied might be a result of a healthier diet, and vegetarian diets are known to be high in fiber content and low in animal fat.

Cadaver studies and their impact on the understanding of human adiposity

Article Abstract:

An extensive dissection study was undertaken on cadavers to obtain data to investigate body composition and the extent to which anthropometry can be justifiably used to predict whole-body adiposity. The amount of visceral adipose tissue was the same in men and women, but in the men this represented a greater proportion of their total body adiposity.
