The myth of income

Article Abstract:

Investors may be unsure whether to invest for income or capital growth, and the distinction between the two is not as clear-cut as might first appear. Investors seeking growth cannot obtain cash until they sell their investments, whereas income investments provide a cash stream. The choice depends in part on the needs of the investor which are linked to their age, with income more important for the retired, who also want to avoid risk. Some stocks may offer income in the form of dividends, and growth through a rise in the stock price.
