Article Abstract:
The Philippine domestic banking sector is liberalized allowing the entry of foreign banks. This resulted in a positive impact on the economy, in general and increased efficiency and decreased interest rate spreads, in banks that are associated to family business group. The competition from foreign banks forces the domestic banks to become more efficient and to break their polical dependency.

Article Abstract:
The factors that lead to the deregulation of deposit interest rates in Hong Kong, and it's after-effects on the market value of banks and total abnormal return are examined. Large banks and those with a high deposit-to-asset ratio are found to be worst affected, revealing that they managed to secure huge grants under the former interest rate rules(IRR).

Hong Kong is the biggest and the most developed amongst the economies with a Currency Board System(CBS). The monetary reforms and their impact, 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis, and the differences in the US and UK interbank interest rates are studied.
