The case for buying foreign equities

Article Abstract:

Foreign equities are sometimes seen as involving more risk for United Kingdom investors, but this view may be misguided. Risks from exchange rates do not add much to equity risks, and there are many overseas stocks with low variances. Foreign equities can also offer opportunities for diversification There are some problems such as high dealing costs and the dangers represented by event risks which may deter investors. Overseas assets have have performed well since 1991 but may not do so in the future, and the extent to which they offer possibilities for diversification varies over time.
