Maurice Ede, chairman of the Professional Standards Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), admits that the Practice Assurance scheme proposed by the institute is never going to be popular, but is convinced that members are resigned to the necessity of having such a scheme in place. Ede believes Practice Assurance is a way of protecting and improving the brand and will allow qualified accountants to distance themselves from unqualified ones.

Article Abstract:

The Chartered Accountants Institute on its 125th anniversary in the year 2005 has announced to have a consultation process, which might allow various necessary recommendations to be incorporated in the bill as it passes through the parliament. It has planned a series of high profile events around the country to mark these achievements, thus attempting to prove the hypothesis that chartered accountants have the best overview of the economic performance of UK.
