Companies in the sector argue that lessons were learnt in the late 1980s but there is still concern that quality thresholds could drop. Venture capitalists see more money and fewer deals. Manchester accounts for much of the activity and Liverpool ranks second in importance in corporate finance market of the region. Companies operating in the region include Arthur Andersen and Wise Speke.

There are two venture capital offices in Bristol, NatWest Ventures and 3i. The city aims to ranks second among UK financial services centers. This means expansion to draw in business from outside. Business and political connections are improving and this could boost corporate activity in the city.
