Streamlining editorial work processes to deliver twice the output in half the time

Article Abstract:

Surface Science publisher Elsevier Science Publishers B.V. proved that the use of modern quality tools and computer technology leads to successful reengineering operation. The publishing firm designed a computer-assisted work process aimed to reduce editorial processes by as much as 75%. The design was initiated by the construction of a work flow diagram, by which a minimal manual intervention (MMI) was developed. And then, the office was redesigned and was equipped with the most advanced tools available in the company, after which, an editorial office capability maturity model was created.
