Article Abstract:

A new index called Responsible Competitiveness Index will now rank the companies based on their social responsibility. The index also indicates the national competitiveness of these companies. The criteria considered for the purpose of these rankings include civic freedom, corporate governance, corruption, and environmental management in these countries.

The effect of the new accounting rules for discouraging companies from using hidden derivatives misrepresenting the financial position of a company, that are aimed at increasing transparency are discussed. The rule expects companies to value the derivatives at market value, but its impact on income volatility and other transactions is debatable.
