Article Abstract:

Active private shareholders can have a major impact on companies. They can ask about issues such as directors' pay. They tend to attend four general meetings annually, own shares in some 30 companies, and have carried out buying or selling of shares some 15 times over a two-year period. Their reasons for buying tend to be long-term, but they may sell for short-term reasons. They are not interested in perks for shareholders, and over a third have worked in the financial services industry.
