Article Abstract:
The relationship between ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) and activity intensity, determined by heart rate, was examined. Participants undertook two simulated occupational tasks, box carrying and sweeping. A moderate, but significant correlation between monitored heart rate and heart rate predicted from RPE scores was observed for both the box carrying and sweeping. The results indicated that heart rate monitoring along does not account for enough variability resulting from RPE.

Article Abstract:
The phases involved in developing physical selection standards for the British Army are examined. The relationships between physical performance tests and criterion tasks are investigated. Prediction models were generated for criterion tasks and the most predictive physical performance tests were identified. Success in developing gender-free and gender-unbiased models was only partly successful.

A study undertook to determine the link between simulated fire suppression tasks and selected physical fitness parameters. The investigation found that activities that raise or maintain muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, decrease percentage body fat and raise fat free weight are important when linked to job performance.
