The company is 50% owned by its founders and the medical school, and could be very successful if its technology can be marketed. The technique being developed by Polymasc allows drugs to be retained for longer so that lower doses are needed. This could be useful for a number of conditions including cancer and gene therapy. The company's shares are seen as good value in Jan 1996.

Xenova is a UK biotechnology company that seeks to develop drugs from natural chemicals, and the company has the biggest library of such chemicals worldwide. Xenova has set up alliances with major pharmaceutical companies such as Genentech and Warner Lambert, and the company will have royalties if compounds it identifies can be marketed. Xenova is also developing its own drugs from compounds which have the greatest potential and is developing two anti-cancer treatments and a thrombosis drug.
