The Joint Chiefs of staffs examined some of the foremost weapons acquisition program in comments to lawmakers on the House armed Service committee, who decide which defense programs to authorize. The chiefs states that the Air Force urgently needs to buy the F/A-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and acrial refueling tanker aircraft to defeat terrorist roadside mines.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is facing difficult choices in assessing its widely varied military aircraft programs. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) report suggests that the re-evaluation of the DoD military aircraft program should be accomplished without losing the ability to fight major wars.
