Liberec waits for an investment worth several billions of Czech crowns

Article Abstract:

Denso (Japan), automotive air-conditioning manufacturer, will build a new plant on an area of about 25 ha in Liberec, the Czech Republic. According to several sources, investment the costs on the project should be considerably more than USD 100 mil, over CEK 4 bil. The firm has not reported the level of the investment. The construction should be started in 2001 and the plant should be commissioned in 2003. The plant will employ about 800 workers and about 200 leading and technical employees. The project is the hitherto highest investment of a Japanese company in the Czech automotive sector. Denso decided for Liberec mainly due to the offer of skilled workforce and low wage costs. The production of the new plant will be intended mainly for European consumers. Denso is the 25th Japanese firm to have invested in the Czech Republic. Japanese investors have invested USD 1.29 bil in the Czech Republic and have promised to set up more than 18,500 jobs.

The state writes off payment arrears worth several billions of Czech crowns

Czech Republic: Tax offices enforced tax arrears worth CEK 41 bil in 2000. They managed to exact CEK 4.5 bil of the sum. In 1999 tax offices exacted CEK 4.2 bil of the totally owed CEK 33 bil. The state wrote off tax arrears worth CEK 11 bil in 2000. The total volume of tax arrears was CEK 99.2 bil at the end of 2000, including a supplementary period. The share of arrears in assessed taxes is about 3.6%. According to the Ministry of Finances of the Czech Republic, the level is comparable with countries of the European Union.

The Americans invested several hundreds of millions of Czech crowns in Chomutov

Article Abstract:

Parker Hannifin (US), automotive component manufacturer, commissioned a new CEK 400 mil plant in Chomutov, Czech Republic, on 04 Jun 2001. The plant will manufacture car air-conditioning components and will employ 300 employees gradually. The staff will increase to nearly 500 prospectively. The plant's main programme will include hose connection, terminal, set and air-conditioning production.
