Japanese direct investment in US food industries has focused on securing markets for Japanese exports and gaining control of those industries manufacturing products popular in Japan. Extensive investment has been made in the frozen fruit juice industry, as well as the beef and tomato paste industries. Japanese companies will seek to compete with American-owned companies for their own markets. Japan's investment in agriculture remains considerably less than its investment in electronics or the auto industry.
