International equities

Article Abstract:

International equity placement has reached a record-high of $58 billion in 1996 compared to $41 billion in 1995. It was sustained by initial public offerings in private companies and by secondary offerings for listed ones. The rise in secondary offerings in the second half of 1995 is attributed to strong stock markets which prompted investors to reduce their holdings. 'Other international share placements,' a category primarily consisting of secondary offerings, rose to $22.9 billion in 1996.
