In at the deep end

Article Abstract:

An analysis of open offers and rights issues for 1998 shows that investors have benefited on the whole. Companies carried out 123 eligible issues and the average return is 46.6%. The FTSE 100 index rose by 14% from the start of 1998 and has not shifted since year-end 1998. Outside investors are excluded from open offers, but they could obtain a good return buying six months later. The return is higher if the top 59 performers are selected after six months.
