How to cut the cost of your mortgage

Article Abstract:

UK mortgage lenders are still offering attractive rates due to a long recession affecting real estate, but this is changing as the market recovers. Borrowers should assess special offers while they are available. They should be aware of the different ways of calculating annual percentage rates and note redemption penalties for special deals. They will also have to pay arrangement fees, their own and the lender's legal fees, the Land Registry fee and local authority search fee. Stamp duty is payable on houses worth more than 60,000 pounds sterling.

Mortgages may never be the same

Article Abstract:

Mortgage lenders in the United Kingdom have tended to offer expensive and inflexible mortgages, but this could change as a result of securitization. Lenders can obtain new funds, and investors buying bonds obtain an income from the payments that borrowers make. Long terms mortgages at a fixed rate of interest could become increasingly common in the UK, and are already common in the US. Abbey National has entered the market for securitization, and Woolwich is studying a plan to do so.

Halifax: all in the price

Article Abstract:

Halifax is the biggest United Kingdom mortgage lender with a respected management. Only one stockbroker from a sample of six rates the company's stocks a buy, three rate them a hold, one a reduce and the last is a seller. Thebuyer is Charles Stanley, while Williams de Broe, Societe Generale Strauss Turnbull and Salomon Brothers are the holders and are concerned about the stocks' weighting premium. NatWest is a weak holder, and UBS is the most pessimistic broker.
