Hambro Insurance Services reported a pre-tax profit of 3.7 million pounds sterling for its loss adjustment division for 1995 to 1996 compared with 915,000 pounds for the previous year. The group's division tackling legal expenses, bulk-claims and phone helplines reported a drop in profit of 3% to 5.3 million pounds despite a rise in turnover of 11%. This includes a 500,000 pounds real estate write-down. Beale Dobie reported an increase of 30% to 1.85 million pounds.

Lloyd's of London faces overcapacity in the insurance market and not all Lloyd's companies are performing as well as expected. Quoted companies also wish to pay as little as they can to names for underwriting capacity. Integrated Lloyd's vehicles include LIMIT which is the best set up vehicle in a number of ways. Overcapacity means that premiums are not high enough, though Lloyd's may argue that it has underwriting skills and is in a specialised market.
