Fyffes

Article Abstract:

Fyffes leads among European suppliers of flowers, and fresh vegetables and fruit. The company has seen continuous growth in pre-tax profit for four decades. Fyffes was floated in 1981, since when stockholders have benefited from compound annual growth. There is concern about the impact of a trade dispute relating to bananas, but the company has a range of sources for this fruit. This also means that the effect of bad weather in one supply location is diluted. The company has set up an alliance with Capespan International which has reduced the importance of bananas in its total turnover.

Booker struggles with volatility and decline

Article Abstract:

Booker is a United Kingdom groceries distributor which has underperformed, and plans to carry out a strategic review. The company's activities include agribusiness and food processing as well as wholesaling. Booker could be broken up but this will not necessarily benefit stockholders. Debt would be reduced, and funds could be spent on wholesaling, where there are problems. Booker has merged its wholesale activities with those of Nurdin and Peacock, and there have been exceptional costs.
