Diabetes is a disease that involves the build up of glucose in the bloodstream because of an inadequate supply of hormone insulin. This accumulation of glucose causes diabetic people to grow weak and to suffer intense thirst. Aside from these two common symptoms, other indications of diabetes are recurrent infections, weight gain, deteriorating vision, poor circulation in the feet, frequent passing of urine, foot ulcers and heart problems. Diabetes falls under two categories: Type I and Type II. Type I or insulin dependent diabetes is caused by extremely low production of insulin because the pancreas is damaged. Type II or insulin resistant diabetes is caused by the inappropriate response of the body's cells to insulin. An accurate method for detecting diabetes is blood testing.
