Corporate strategies and environmental regulations: an organizing framework

Article Abstract:

Environmental regulations at the multilateral, regional, national, subnational and municipal levels affect corporate strategy and industrial performance. Environmental regulations are particularly important for multinational enterprises (MNEs), given their proliferation in pollution-intensive industries such as petroleum, heavy manufacturing and chemicals and their need to comply with these regulations at five levels simultaneously. An international business model, which takes into account firm-specific advantages (FSA) and country-specific advantages (CSA), is used to analyze the impact of environmental regulations on MNEs' strategy. No significant evidence was found that environmental regulations affect the FSA/CSA configuration and location decisions of MNEs.

White collar crime will be decreased in a firm with an explicit corporate governance policy, performance-based wage system and well-organized organizational communication system.
