Pensions: charges horror

Article Abstract:

The high charges of some UK insurers mean that investors may lose if they switch to a personal pension from the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (Serps). Charges made by some companies are so high that low earners may find they are worse off if they join a personal pension scheme. Companies charging lower rates can take more than 20% of funds in fees, and this rises to over half for higher charging companies. There may also be penalties if funds are transferred to another company.
