Boeing's booster

Boeing has been awarded a $6 billion contract by American Airlines to supply 103 aircraft with options for a further 527. Boeing is to be the exclusive supplier for American Airlines to 2018. American Airlines is likely to have been given a large discount for such a large order. Only major US airlines and British Airways are likely to be able to demand this type of agreement. Boeing has to supply the additional aircraft within 15 months to 18 months of their being ordered.

Plane makers in space race

Article Abstract:

Boeing is investing $3.2 billion in acquiring the space and defense businesses of Rockwell. The company follows a trend of consolidation since only larger firms are likely to survive in these industries. Boeing will increase its stake in major space projects in the US like the new breed of space shuttle. The company is seeking to diversify away from its commercial aircraft activities which are affected by strong cyclical changes that in turn make profits unstable.

Boeing buoyed by plane deal

Article Abstract:

Boeing is to sell aircraft to GE Capital's aeroplane leasing division. The agreement could bring in $11.6 billion revenue for Boeing if all the options are taken up by GE. There is a firm order for 107 aircraft, and there are options for a further 152 planes. Boeing reported a total 261 aircraft in new order for 1995, with a total value of $18 billion, and this compares favourably with Airbus with $7 billion worth of new orders involving 106 aircraft.
