This is made possible by the ability to enter multiple values in a single cell through direct input, storing values by a resident formula, use of one of four standard continuous variables, four discrete-valued variables, or one's self-defined probability distributions. Statistical functions include standard deviation, percentile, mean-median, chi-square, and maximum-minimum. Looking beyond Lotus 1-2-3
Article Abstract:
Even though Lotus 1-2-3 has become the spreadsheet standard for accounting, it still has drawbacks brought on by MS DOS and its 640K of RAM. This limitation has been overcome by the introduction of programs such as PC Excel and Lotus 1-2-3-G which run on OS-2 and can address 16 megabytes of RAM. It will probably take some time for these programs to become very prevalent because of the expense involved in upgrading machines and training staff.
