Atmel Corp, a San Jose, CA-based dealer of high performance memory and logic integrated circuits, experienced a soar in earnings and profits in the first three quarters of 1991. Earnings increased by 60% to reach $120.4 million, while profits increased to $10.3 million. On the other hand, last quarter figures for the 1991 were not as impressive because of a decrease in productivity. Last March, the firm went public and initiated a public offering of 5,175,000 shares at $13 per share.

Cypress Semiconductor Corp failed to maintain its sixth year of record per share earnings in 1991. Although Cypress' net income increased to about $1 million for 1991, the company stressed its failure on December quarter that resulted to a $2.3 million decrease in profits. The integrated circuit manufacturer plans to generate $5 million in supplemental income by cutting down its manufacturing costs.

Stock analysts predict Vitesse Semiconductor Corp (VTSS) stock to increase to five to seven cents per share in the 2nd qtr ending Mar 1992 and to further jump to seven to nine cents in the fiscal quarter ending Jun 1992. VTSS Pres and CEO Louis R. Tomasetta states that the forecast for the two quarters are premised on expected profits from an order backlog from testing equipment manufacturers.
