Bell Helicopter has proposed its Bell 412EP helicopter instead of Bell 210 helicopter in the contest for the Army's Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) program. The FAA-certified Bell 412EP meets all the requirements listed in the Army's request for proposals (RFP) and also exceeds the requirements in many cases, including endurance, airspeed, range, lift requirements, growth capacity, missions reliability, and operational availability.

A defense analyst has stated that the supply of a Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) to the US Army will entirely depend on Army officials' decision on the kind of helicopter they really require. The Army has declared that it wants 300 helicopters as part of the LUH, as it will both replace the venerable UH-1 Huey helicopters as well as free up use of UH 60 Black Hawk utility tactical transport helicopters.
