Future Combat System (FCS) modernization program began with Army publicly demonstrating multiple new technologies and the event also included a briefing and demonstration of the Non-Line-Of-Sight Launch System (NLOS-LS). Secretary of Army Francis Harvey and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker took the opportunity to warn lawmakers against cutting the FCS budget, which is estimated to cost more than $25 billion in the near term and about $125 billion over 20 years.

The National Center for Defense Robotics (NCDR) is an organization designed to get congressional funding to address un-funded needs in defense robotics, either in robots themselves or in enabling technologies. NCDR based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania works with lawmakers from the Republic and Democratic parties to add robotics R&D items to federal budget bills.
