The majority of respondents to the Economist Intelligence Unit's CEO Briefing on corporate priorities for 2004 state China as a country that offers their business the greatest opportunity for growth in the current year. Further, China's trade, economic growth and its booming domestic market has increased the level of confidence in the Asian powerhouse.

China's economic potential is a lot like Japan in the 1970s and the possibility that China is the new Japan could be both a blessing and a curse. It is believed that there are some simmering political issues between Japan and China that inhibit the full realization of mutual economic benefit.
