Alternative models of structural change in agriculture and related industries

Article Abstract:

Five models explaining the structural changes in farms and agribusiness firms are presented. The models are used to evaluate the structural changes in economies of scale, technological specialization and management as well as modifications in social, organizational and financial aspects. The use of five non-mutually exclusive models to give a relatively complete explanation of structural changes suggests that these changes are complex. The analysis provide some observations into what causes the changes and the difficulties encountered in controlling them.
