Ahold CZ (Ricany u Prahy, Czech Republic), retailer, will reduce the number of its trade lines from three to two from May 2001. The megamarkets Prima will become a part of the chain of the hypermarkets Hypernova. Ahold CZ increased its proceeds by nearly 29% to CEK 23.46 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. The firm maintained its position of the largest retailer in the Czech Republic. Ahold CZ is a subsidiary of the multinational company Royal Ahold (Netherlands).

The firm should commission a large Hypernova hypermarket in Ostrava and seven small hypermarkets in other cities in 2001. Ahold plans to commission another seven small hypermarkets and 2-3 large hypermarkets in 2002. The firm will connect its chains Prima and Hypernova from 09 May 2001.

In central Europe, the company has a total of 41 shops currently. The number should increase to 48 by the end of 2001. In the Czech Republic, the firm has 18 shops currently and plans to commission another four shops shortly.
